On May 15, the UAE Cabinet approved a new long-term residency visa – the ‘Blue Residency’, for individuals who have made contributions in the environmental field.
The Blue Residency visa is a 10-year residency awarded to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to environmental protection. This includes work in marine life conservation, land-based ecosystem preservation, air quality improvement, sustainability technologies, the circular economy and related areas.
“The Blue Residency will specifically be granted to supporters of environmental action, including members of international organisations, international companies, members of associations and non-governmental organisations, global award winners, and distinguished activists and researchers in environmental work,” the UAE Cabinet announcement said.
Renewable Energy: The UAE’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy capacity creates a prime opportunity for DACH companies. German solar and wind technologies, Austrian hydropower solutions and Swiss energy storage systems can help the UAE meet its ambitious targets under the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Abu Dhabi Energy Strategy 2030. By offering advanced clean energy technologies, DACH firms can play an important role in the UAE’s transition to a sustainable energy future.
Green Building and Sustainable Construction: With the UAE’s rapid urban expansion, there is a strong demand for sustainable construction practices. DACH companies are leaders in this field, providing eco-friendly building materials, energy-efficient designs and smart building technologies. These innovations align perfectly with UAE initiatives like Masdar City and the Green Building Regulations, promoting a greener urban landscape.
Water and Waste Management: The UAE’s focus on water conservation and efficient waste management presents significant opportunities for DACH companies. Water filtration systems, desalination technologies and water recycling solutions can address the region’s water scarcity issues. In waste management, DACH firms can offer innovative recycling and waste reduction technologies, supporting the UAE’s National Waste Management Strategy.
